Project 52 – Week 16 – Look Up
Friday morning means a new Project 52 post for you to feast your eyes on. Some of the members of the Beautiful Beasties Network (a professional pet photographers’ forum) are taking on the challenge of doing pet-related photography, with a theme that changes every week, for an entire year. The goal is to start shooting outside the box, to challenge ourselves as photographers and to expand our vision and talents. So far I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my participation, and I have learned to look at my dogs and their accoutrements in a different light (and at a different angle).
This week’s theme is from the ground up. So often, with animals (and kids!) we shoot from above or on their level. The challenge this week was to shoot from below. With three very curious Cocker Spaniels, this was not an easy task! Every time I got on the ground, they immediately came over to shower me with sniffs and licks. Most of my photos were a blur of hair and shadow and not much else.
Fortunately we’ve had a few nice days this week, so I was able to get out after work and get some pictures of the kids. Since my last two Project 52 posts have been about my youngest furkid Jack Jack, I thought I’d shake things up and share some photos of my other two.
Grace was annoyed at having her nap interrupted. Since she likes to sun herself on the hot tub cover, I crouched and waited for a good shot. It didn’t take long for her to protest at being watched.
Farley is always tricky to photograph, since he’s deaf and doesn’t always look at the camera when I’d like him to. Using squeaky toys is no longer effective. But since I almost never shoot from below their level, he was very interested in what I was doing. I think he looks pretty good for a 12.5 year old dog!
I hope you’ve enjoyed seeing things from a new point of view. As this is a blog ring, please continue on to Massachusets Pet Photographer Blue Amrich’s blog. Keeping clicking through the links at the end of each blog until you get back here, and you’ll have seen all of the Project 52 blog posts for this week.

Great perspective. I love the last image!
Grace does look a tad annoyed
That is such a beautiful shot of Farley, makes you just want to cuddle him.
I love the second shot. He looks like he’s saying, ‘hey, what are you doing down there?’ They are beautiful!
